John McCain has decided to suspend his campaign, skip the first scheduled debate (expected to have a huge viewership) and fly to Washington to fix the credit crisis. All of this is a bit odd since:
Aside from McCain not having the experience to add value to this conversation, the media circus that would follow him would only cause an additional distraction. Even if McCain could add value to resolving the credit crisis, why couldn’t he spare a few hours to get on his private jet to fly to the debates?
The only reasonable explanation is this is move a political stunt that allows him to avoid the debate. A debate that was expected to be one of the most watched in history. A debate that offers the first chance in this election for voters to begin to understand the differences between the candidates. Hopefully people see this for what it is.
As always, comments and thoughts are welcomed.

I do agree that this is a political stunt — but I think it is a stunt for different reasons. John McCain is not trying to avoid the debate itself. He is just trying to separate/distinguish himself from Obama by claiming he is more concerned with on the ground issues. This is his opportunity to present himself as a leader, and he is running with it. It doesn’t matter that he is not one of the decision makers, or that he really can not help resolve any issues. All he has to do is give the ‘appearance’ of being a leader, so that the public can feel more secure in electing him.
…rather ruin an economy than lose an election.
What confirms for me that this is a ploy is that his votes missed during this session is so high, yet now he is choosing to be a participating representative for AZ.
As someone who believes in multi-tasking, I don’t think he needs to stop campaigning completely to address this issue.
I don’t think it’s to avoid the debate. The topic is supposed to be foreign policy, and he’ll do ok. He is trying to fanagle the schedule so that the VP debate ends up not happening. Also, on multitasking, yeah, if I am stupid enough to buy that his reasons for this stunt are sincere, then wouldn’t I need to wonder how someone who can’t walk and chew gum at the same time will handle the Presidency? Like, will he have one of those take-a-number thingys outside of the oval office - only one crisis at a time!
Interesting… I hadn’t thought about the whole VP debate angle. I think Katie might be on to something.
Biden would run circles around poor old Moose-Milf (TM)
**Lookie at that, I just coined that term suckas! Quick on my feet. Like a ninja.
