Below is a pretty awesome graphic that is derived from research done research done by USC alum (FIGHT ON) Martin Hilbert and Priscila Lopez.  The work is titled, “The World’s Technological Capacity to Store, Communicate, and Compute Information.” 

 One of the things I found most interesting is that in 1986 41% of the computing power was pocket calculators.
